#2 of 11 in Lugano

Monte San Salvatore rises above Lugano, offering visitors one of the most spectacular panoramic viewpoints in the region. The summit is easily reached by a funicular railway, which departs regularly from Paradiso and whisks passengers up the mountain in about 12 minutes. The funicular operates daily from March to October, with extended evening hours in summer, and on weekends during the winter months. Tickets for a round-trip journey cost CHF 32 for adults, with discounts available for children, seniors, and holders of Swiss travel passes.

At the top, visitors are greeted by sweeping views of Lake Lugano, the city below, and the distant peaks of the Swiss and Italian Alps. Well-marked hiking trails radiate from the summit, inviting exploration of the surrounding forests and ridgelines. The summit area also features a small museum, cultural exhibitions, and Restaurant Vetta, where guests can enjoy Ticino specialties while taking in the scenery from the terrace.

Monte San Salvatore is a popular destination for families, hikers, and photographers, as well as for special events and conferences hosted at the summit. Whether you’re seeking a leisurely outing, a challenging hike, or simply a place to soak up the Alpine landscape, Monte San Salvatore provides a memorable escape above Lugano, blending natural beauty, local culture, and easy accessibility.
